One of the key things that has players excited for GTA 6 is that the gap between it and the past entry is growing with every day that goes by. That means that there’s new technology and services for Rockstar Games to use to try to make the game even better. We’ve already gotten teasers of this, including the potential use of social media within the game, the title’s incredible graphics, and the feeling that this could be the most detailed and incredible open world yet by Rockstar. However, on Reddit, one person posed that voice chat between players might be a key thing for them to look into:
“The multiplayer space is obviously very different now than it was when GTA 5 was in development. Two of the big things that have become mainstream since then are emotes and proximity chat. R* are seemingly aiming to make GTA 6 a super social space with large player count servers (according to patents Take Two has filed) and user generated content, like we’ve seen with the mission creator that just came out today in GTA Online, plus their acquisition of FiveM.
So if this is the vision, I personally would expect them to include proximity chat to make freemode lobbies more interactive. What do you think?”
In truth, it certainly is something that is possible. Chats between gamers have become a staple of the industry, for better and for worse, and the technology behind it has certainly been refined over the last few years alone. Given that we know there will be an online component for gamers to enjoy, it’s entirely possible that Rockstar Games will put in proxy chat for the title so that gamers can discuss things with one another, work more competently together as they do missions, and so on.
One player noted that Rockstar actually used this chat feature in its other games’ online mode, which further highlights the potential for it, and one commenter posted that the team used feedback from players to ensure it worked well:
“Heavy, vocal feedback is important at the beginning of an online game’s life. Once it hits like a few years in, most players adapt to the issues and fixing them becomes less of a priority over wanting new content.”
In the end, we won’t know what the dev team is planning in terms of game features, but with the newest delay, they do have a little more time to think it through.
