Fans realized that Rockstar already revealed the detail in Grand Theft Auto 6 that came up in yesterday’s leak.

As we reported yesterday, fans found that a Rockstar employee shared some production footage from the game as part of their demo reel.
Rockstar confirmed that this footage came from the game after the demo was taken offline and footage was NDA’d.
It now appears that we won’t be getting that much more information about this leak, but some fans are still figuring out things about it.
Rockstar Already Revealed This
Redditor BLKBRN_ pointed out that Rockstar shared a promotional image of Grand Theft Auto 6 that showed bike rentals. This is a very small detail from an overhead landscape image of that game’s version of Vice City.
You should see the actual promotional image as our featured image for this post. If you want to look for it, the bike rental kiosk is close to the lower middle of the image, under some tall palm trees and next to a passenger bus.
Why Is Rockstar Being So Secretive?
Now, if you are a casual fan, we can understand why you would be skeptical of Rockstar. This seems to be a completely insignificant detail, so why is Rockstar being so protective about it?
Of course, the fact that this footage doesn’t really spoil anything is beside the point.
If you’ve worked a corporate job, you will understand that many jobs require confidential agreements. These safeguards are in place to make sure that corporate secrets don’t get leaked.
On one end, these companies don’t want their competitors to know what they’re doing. But sometimes they also need to do this to fulfill legal obligations.
Rockstar – And The Game Industry – Really Need To Loosen Up
Regardless of all this, we also believe that Rockstar Games and their peers are being overly secretive. This is about more than Grand Theft Auto 6, and is really about the industry in general.
Rules and norms can be changed, and it’s time for video game companies to loosen up on their secrecy. These situation is clearly not as urgent as it was when an entire Grand Theft Auto 6 build, and even the source code for Grand Theft Auto V, got leaked in 2022.
We are also concerned about the employee in this situation. Contrary to earlier assumptions, we believe this person did not leak this footage after getting laid off by Rockstar.
Obviously they would be inviting legal action if that was how it played out. The last thing we want to see is for this to become some self-fulfilling prophecy.
The developer didn’t really share anything compromising. We also think they should be able to reveal their work for games that are still a WIP, as well as games that get cancelled.
In any case, we still wait for Take-Two and Rockstar to make an official statement on this. We think they can assure fans by confirming that this person is still in their employ and they aren’t going to get punished for what amounts to a non-controversy.
