After six years, we have a big and very real update for Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Microsoft has proudly revealed that they are bringing Team Cherry’s long-awaited Metroidvania to Gamescom this year. They will be holding Xbox @ Gamescom 2025 Broadcasts on August 20 and 21, Wednesday and Thursday respectively.
Why Do We Still Care About Hollow Knight: Silksong?
Hollow Knight: Silksong is the long awaited sequel to Hollow Knight, a very highly regarded Metroidvania produced by independent game studio Team Cherry.

Fans love to talk about Hollow Knight as a 2D Dark Souls. However, Team Cherry explained they actually sought to recreate the obtuse game design and atmosphere of 1980s and 1990s platformers.
Among the games they revealed as actual influences are Faxanadu, Metroid, Zelda II: The Adventure of Link, and Mega Man X. Whether you think they made 2D Dark Souls or not, it became a critical and commercial hit.
Hollow Knight: Silksong was announced in 2018. At one point, Team Cherry claimed that they would be releasing after the 1st half of 2023. Since then, the studio started to quiet down on updating fans.
Team Cherry does remain popular, and fans are still anticipating the game’s future release. But at the same time, they have been quiet for too long. This created a situation where Hollow Knight: Silksong rumors became a meme in itself.
Can We Play It At Gamescom
Microsoft revealed that they will demo Hollow Knight: Silksong on their new upcoming hardware, the ROG Xbox Ally, alongside tons of other games.
They’re also featuring these games on the event:
- Grounded 2
- Ninja Gaiden 4
- Indiana Jones and the Great Circle: The Order Of Giants
- Age of Empires
- Age of Mythology: Retold
- Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024
- The Outer Worlds 2
There will also be separate dedicated events for World of WarCraft and Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. As you may already know, Geoff Keighley will host a special Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 presentation on Gamescom’s opening night.
Microsoft Gaming definitely knows they need to take their PR to the next level in the coming weeks. While they do have some games that fans will buy no matter what, their sullied reputation can harm their ability to make enough money to justify their acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
We’ve heard Microsoft CEO speak on their recent company-wide layoffs that affected their studios and likely slowed down all their projects. At least, Microsoft can still feature their partners and games like Hollow Knight: Silksong.
