Ubisoft doesn’t seem to be hiding that they’re remaking an Assassin’s Creed game anymore.

The French Assassin’s Creed Twitter account posted a gif of Edward Kenway and Adéwalé navigating their ship, with this caption:
Mentalement je suis là
Which simply translates to, mentally, I’m here. But then, there’s not that much needed to extrapolate here, as Edward and Adéwalé are central characters in Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. Rumors that Ubisoft has been working on an Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake have been around since at least 2023, and if that is when they started, it’s credible that they could be nearing the end of development.
But for what it’s worth, this isn’t even the first time Ubisoft has been memeing about Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag. At the end of May 2025, the Assassin’s Creed UK Twitter account also made a meme using the plain old Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag logo. Just yesterday, Edward Kenway’s voice actor also dropped hints that players might have to beat the game again.
But you already knew that there had been rumors about this remake for some time now. What we will point out here is that Ubisoft decided not to hold an Ubisoft Forward event last month. That would have been the opportunity to announce and show us the Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag remake, and they chose to just not do it. That’s not necessarily a sign that it isn’t happening or that it’s been delayed. It may be an indication that they chose not to reveal it yet, but that announcement is probably coming at this rate.
If Ubisoft is starting to drop these hints more rapidly in building up the actual announcement, they may be holding that announcement in this year’s Gamescom. But then again, it is possible that the developers are still working on it for a proper rerelease sometime next year. Ubisoft is also rumored to be busy with a new Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon, and in the context of the company being on the mend, they’re probably lining up all their projects for the reorganization that’s forthcoming with the formation of their upcoming subsidiary with TenCent.
As we had argued before, the success of Assassin’s Creed: Shadows put Ubisoft in a favorable position, so that they can take their time with their upcoming projects. Hopefully they will make this wait worthwhile when they finally show us their hands.
