As we’re seeing across the board in the gaming industry right now, it’s not enough to go and just have something good that people can build off of, like a powerful console. You need to ensure that you have plenty of teams making the right stuff on your system, or, at the very least, are willing to bring their games to your console so that you have a chance to make some money off every game that’s on it. In the case of the Nintendo Switch 2, they need companies like Take-Two to help supply them with meaningful titles while they continue cranking out their epic 1st-party lineup.
To that end, in an interview with The Game Business, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick was very clear that not only was he happy to put a bunch of the company’s games on the Nintendo Switch 2 for its launch, but he’s a “big believer” in the system as a whole:
“We feel really good about it (Switch 2). But it always remains to be seen. We’re offering more on launch support than ever before for a Nintendo platform. We’ve announced four titles for Switch 2. It remains to be seen how it does, but I am a big believer.”
Based on certain reports that have been circulating recently, he’s not the only one who believes that Switch 2 could be the biggest thing in the industry in some respects. There are those who even feel that it could be the biggest and most important launch in gaming history! Whether that’s true or not…only time will tell.
Going back to the game side of things, Zelnick did make it clear that he feels Nintendo has been trying to obtain more 3rd-party support over the years:
“Historically, Nintendo has done a better and more supportive job with first-party titles. But I think they are aiming to change that. And we have basically risen to the challenge and opportunity, and we’ll see how it goes. We voted with our feet. Nintendo has asked us to be supportive, and we do believe we’re doing that. Now we will see what happens.”
Given the state of the gaming industry right now, most companies are looking at the multiplatform approach to make the most profit. We saw that being confirmed with Square Enix not too long ago. That being said, with the potential success of the Switch 2, we could see certain companies, including possibly Take-Two, doing some exclusives on the Nintendo platform to see how things go.
