Respect in the video game industry is something that we sadly need to see more of…because many seem to have forgotten what it is. Oh, and we’re not just talking about one group in particular. You can go all the way to the “top” via the publishers and executives of certain companies and then all the way to the “bottom” with the way gamers treat each other in online forums, chats, and online battles. Disrespect is rampant, and you can do it in many forms. One unexpected way comes via the upcoming title Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition, which is coming out soon on Nintendo Switch…not that The Game Awards would acknowledge that…
It’s true. Over the weekend, the official Twitter handle for The Game Awards made a post highlighting the “major games” that would come out during the month. Take a look at the tweet below and see if you notice the game that is missing from the list:
Yes, obviously, it’s Xenoblade Chronicles X Definitive Edition. The game is the most anticipated game for the Switch in the coming month, and yet, The Game Awards and their host, Geoff Keighley, seemingly “forgot” that it was coming out and even put non-AAA titles on the list, including an RPG remaster, over the upcoming Monolith Soft game. Naturally, fans didn’t take that well…
Yeah, they railed against Keighley and The Game Awards for not giving credit where credit is due. You’d think that this would be the end of the matter, but it actually had one more chapter. You see, earlier today, The Game Awards made a singular post about the JRPG, asking fans if they were “excited about its release,” and fans pounced on it:
So, what have we learned here today? Well, The Game Awards will succumb to pressure when enough of it is made. Whether Geoff Keighley does, though? That still remains up for debate, based on how The Game Awards went last year and whether he “changes his tune” on certain things this year to try and make things seem “happier” than last time.
As for the presumed “feud” between Keighley/TGAs vs. Monolith Soft titles, there is a bit of a weird “issue” going on with them. Yes, the third entry was nominated for Game of the Year back in 2022, but its DLC wasn’t given any nominations despite a LOT of critical and fan love, please other entries in the series barely got any acknowledgement.
