Fans of the classic BioWare RPG Baldur's Gate may have a nice surprise headed their way, if recent updates to a mysterious teaser site are any indication.
Yesterday, baldursgate.com was updated with an image of the game's logo and theme song. Shortly after, a block of text appeared below, an excerpt from a prophecy of the seer Alaundo, whose writings featured prominently in the first Baldur's Gate.
“The Lord of Murder shall perish, but in his doom he shall spawn a score of mortal progeny, chaos will be sown by their passage,” it reads. Sounds postively charming, doesn't it?
But that's not all. The source code for the page also contains a series of hidden messages, which have been updated several times. At the moment, they read:
"For years, I clung to the memory of it. Then the memory of the memory.
"And then… it returned. Better than it was before."Pore over the tapestries and works of art hanging from our walls if you wish, Child of Bhaal… perhaps you will find a clue. But patience, ah… patience would reveal it all."
Earlier clues included the the rather taunting "You haven't guessed it yet."
Some whois sleuthing by enterprising fans revealed that the site is registered to Trent Oster, a former BioWare employee who worked on the original Baldur's Gate.
When contacted by GameBanshee, Oster declined to offer a full explanation, but he did state that we could expect to hear more on the mystery project shortly.
“We’re not related to the Steam complete edition, I can tell you that much. Other than that, we’re hoping to announce something soon,” Oster said.
Oster's current studio, Beamdog, previously worked on the Wii port and HD remake of another classic BioWare title, MDK2, so the most likely explanation is that a port or a remaster of Baldur's Gate is in the works. But hey, if it turns out to be Baldur's Gate III, you certainly won't hear us complaining.
