Rumor: Bungie’s Gummy Bears Will Be Revealed In Today’s State Of Play – And It’s Coming To Nintendo Switch

February 12, 2025 by Ryan Parreno

One could argue this could be Sony’s 1st original game they bring to Nintendo Switch.

We have an interesting rumor about Bungie’s rumored unannounced title, codenamed Gummy Bears.

As reported by Spanish language gaming website Vandal, a source told them that Sony will be revealing Gummy Bears in today’s State of Play. Vandal also says this source previously leaked the State of Play event to them, and also correctly predicted the time the event would take place.

So Vandal argues that this source is credible, and this might finally be the time we get to see Gummy Bears.

Rumors about Gummy Bears emerged as early as January 2024, when Bungie posted job listings for the project. Sony has not confirmed their use of this codename, but they did confirm that they approved a Bungie project to move forward, even after they decided to hold layoffs and massive restructuring at the studio.

From what we know, Sony is confident enough in Gummy Bears that they chose to spinoff the game into its own project. Subsequently, the team working on Gummy Bears has now been made into their own studio, separate from Bungie.

Last month, a new report claimed to have more details on Gummy Bears. It’s mainly a MOBA, but with some ideas taken from Super Smash Bros. In particular, players won’t have conventional health bars, but will instead receive percentage damage from attacks.

Just like in Nintendo’s signature fighting game franchise, you can hold out even if you got past 100 %, but the more percentage you incur, the easier it is to kick you out of the map.

Gummy Bears apparently has lo-fi, cozy vibes, with vibrant and colorful visuals. That certainly invites comparisons to multiple Nintendo games; not only Super Smash Bros, but Splatoon and maybe even Animal Crossing. But the most important detail to come out of this rumor is that playtests are getting a lot of positive feedback for Gummy Bears, which is why it’s moving forward.

Vandal had one more detail in their rumor that ties this all together. Their source claims that when Gummy Bears is revealed, it will also be announced for PC, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch.

If that’s true, it’ll be certainly a debatable point if this should count as the first original Sony game they publish to a Nintendo platform. Some might say that is Lego Horizon Adventures, but that uses the Lego license.

We also didn’t forget that before making PlayStation, Sony was a publisher of games on Nintendo and Sega platforms. But technically, Sony Imagesoft was a subsidiary and not part of Sony directly.

Of course, if Sony is willing to bring this game to Switch, why couldn’t they publish Astro Bot on Nintendo’s platform as well? And how long will they keep holding out before they also try to make money with their games on Xbox? We’ll see where Sony’s headspace is when they make their announcements later today.
