Elden Ring fans are getting ready to dive into the next major release for this IP. FromSoftware is cooking up the upcoming launch of Elden Ring Nightreign. To hype up its release, the game director behind the project, Junya Ishizaki, spoke with PC Gamer about what we can expect regarding the actual map.
Thanks to GamesRadar, we’re finding out about the interview in a recent issue of the PC Gamer magazine. In the latest issue, Junya Ishizaki discussed how players can expect to see large-scale changes to the terrain. Everything from procedurally generated volcanos to swamps and forests could pop up on the map.
The focus was to ensure the map always felt like a giant dungeon, according to Junya. When you’re deciding on what boss you’re battling at the end of the three days, that should make getting the necessary gear feel fresh. After all, depending on what’s available on your map, you might have to adjust your strategy to the boss you’ll be facing against.
“We wanted the map itself to be a giant dungeon, so players have the chance to traverse and explore a different way every time they play. You have to choose the boss you want to face at the end of the third day. Once you’ve made that choice, maybe you have an idea of how you want to strategize against that boss, and this might change how you approach the map. We wanted to offer players that agency, to decide ‘I need to go after a poison weapon this time to face this boss.” – Junya Ishizaki
Of course, we’re eager to learn more about this game and try it out for ourselves. If you haven’t been keeping tabs on Elden Ring Nightreign, the title is intended to be played in groups of three. Players would drop into a procedurally generated version of Limgrave. From there, you have three in-game days to prepare for a final boss fight.
We currently don’t have a specific release date for Elden Ring Nightreign. Unveiled during The Game Awards 2024, we only knew FromSoftware intended for this game to release at some point this year. However, when this title drops, you’ll find it available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms. In the meantime, you can check out some gameplay footage in the video we have embedded below.
