Dune is a hot IP right now. It’s found a big resurgence with the movies, making it a fantastic opportunity to drop a new gameplay experience in the mix. That’s the hope for Funcom, as they have been slowly chipping away at the game to get it out into the marketplace this year. Fortunately, those plans haven’t changed, as we’re still on track to seeing the launch of Dune: Awakening before the first half of 2025 wraps.
Previews for Dune: Awakening are starting to roll out now. Various media outlets had the chance to get a look at the upcoming MMO early. But for the rest of the players, the game is still in the oven. Fortunately, it’s not something that needs too long to cook up. I guess what I should say is that, depending on how you look at it, the game is nearly ready. This comes from a statement made by Eurogamer.
Eurogamer had the chance to check out Dune: Awakening, and during their conversation with Scott Junior, the executive producer for the upcoming title, it’s still slated for the first half of 2025. Unfortunately, we could not get much of a narrow window from this conversation. Instead, it’s only noted that we should have it before the second half of 2025 hits.
That said, this is also in reference to the PC release, as the game’s console version is not slated to come out until a later date. However, when the game is released, you might be wondering how the monetization aspect will be presented. If you were hoping this would be a free-to-play experience, you’re out of luck. Eurogamer confirmed that this wasn’t going to be the case for Dune: Awakening. Instead, how the monetization aspect will work will be unveiled later.
