Last week, Phil Tippett launched his augmented reality game’s Kickstarter. HoloGrid: Monster Battle is sailing along nicely, raising over $30,000 as of now. HappyGiant recently released new footage of HoloGrid in action. You can check it out here.
The gameplay for HoloGrid will be much like any collectible card game, such as Magic: The Gathering and Hearthstone. But those games are two separate dimensions, physical and digital. HoloGrid intends to combine both – using physical cards to activate Augmented Reality creatures on a gameboard.
Remember how the Yu-Gi-Oh series worked? Think of it like that.
HoloGrid players can play locally or remotely online, but there’s a physical board as well for offline capabilities.
Kickstarter backers have a wide range of reward tiers to choose from. The $10 “Battle Backer” tier gets your name in the credits on the game’s website, and an exclusive wallpaper set. You can get the full game at $30, which includes the app, 2 card packs, 2 custom stands, a physical game board and rule sheet. But for a whopping $5000, you can get four copies of the game, a tour of Tippett studio, lunch with Phil Tippett, four 3D printed monster figures, you get to name a creature, you get your name in the “Creature Masters” credits, a HoloGrid T-Shirt, and a bunch of stuff signed by Phil himself.
