Plenty of players were upset with the idea of having to sign in to PlayStation Network for the various Sony first-party PC games. Mods were even put out that allowed players to bypass this requirement. Now, it looks like Sony is changing things up, as the Network sign-in requirement seems to be becoming more of an optional feature for players.
Taking to the PlayStation Blog, Sony confirmed that several of its PC games will now lose the PlayStation Network sign-in requirement. Those games, in particular, include the upcoming release of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, The Last of Us Part II Remastered, God of War Ragnarok, and Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered.
That might bring in quite a bit of praise for some fans, but it’s still hopeful on Sony’s part that you’ll sign in regardless. New incentives are going out for these video games that might persuade players to sign in. So, outside of having trophies to unlock and friend management options, select games will also throw in some goodies just for signing in when prompted. We’ll list the incentives as they are presented on the official PlayStation Blog.
PlayStation Network Sign-In Benefits
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
- Early unlock suits: the Spider-Man 2099 Black Suit and the Miles Morales 2099 Suit
God of War Ragnarok
- Gain access to the Armor of the Black Bear set for Kratos at the first Lost Items chest in the Realm Between Realms (previously only accessible in a New Game+ run) and a resource bundle (500 Hacksilver and 250 XP)
The Last of Us Part II Remastered
- +50 points to activate bonus features and unlock extras
- Jordan’s Jacket from Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet as a skin for Ellie
Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered
- Gain access to Nora Valiant outfit
These are all the incentives currently being featured. However, these developers are releasing more. Sony ends the blog post by alerting fans to follow the various studios’ social media channels to learn more information about what is coming out as an incentive for signing in on the PlayStation Network.
