Capcom’s Resident Evil franchise has quite a lengthy history. We’re always wondering just what Capcom is bringing out for this series. From mainline installments to spinoffs to remakes, the development team is constantly turning these games out. However, their next release might actually come in the form of a remastered edition.
Fans of the franchise have been anticipating more remakes, but it looks like Resident Evil 6 was just found on the US game rating board. The ESRB has been marked as mature, but the real news is that this game might be coming out as a remastered edition instead of a remake. Thanks to VGC, we’re finding out about the potential remastered release being in the works.
It’s an interesting move, as most might have been anticipating a remake for this game after Resident Evil 5 gets its remake treatment. That said, this ESRB rating is for the Xbox Series X/S platforms, with PlayStation 5 likely receiving a rating sooner rather than later. That will at least bring this game to the latest-generation console platforms for those who want to either replay it again or enjoy it for the first time.
Now, many fans within the franchise also consider this the black sheep. While Resident Evil 5 heavily leaned on action-horror gameplay experiences, Resident Evil 6 lost the survival horror elements in favor of QTEs and action-packed moments. That was also the turning point for Capcom to return and bring something closer to its roots with Resident Evil 7.
Unfortunately, we don’t know officially what Capcom has in store for fans next. Resident Evil 4 Remake was the last game from Capcom to enter the marketplace. We might see Capcom opt to bring out the next new mainline installment to help progress the storyline. But for now, all we can do is wait and see when Capcom decides to pull back the veil on what they are doing next for this behemoth of a franchise.
