The next generation of consoles isn't a million miles away, they're being developed and researched as we speak. Of course, when we'll actually hear about them is another thing entirely, but that doesn't stop the occasional piece of gossip slipping through the net. For instance, Forbes reported yesterday that some former AMD employees had broken silence to discuss their role in the PlayStation 4.
The PS3 was a nVidia powered device, but if this rumour turns out to be true, Sony will be making the leap to AMD for the next generation; it's an AMD-made card that powers the Xbox 360. This has led some people to have concerns about backwards compatibility in Sony's next console, before it's even officially announced.
Whoever creates the parts inside the next PlayStation is unlikely to have too much of a direct effect on the average user, but tech fans are likely going to take this rumour to heart.
