Recently, we have seen a boom in video games being adapted into television shows or movies. It wasn’t long ago that these adaptations were often very lackluster. Filmmakers took too many liberties with the source materials, resulting in poorly received productions. However, that’s started to change as we have shows like The Last of Us and The Witcher.
Now I understand that Netflix’s series adaptation is not directly from the video games but the books. However, you can easily argue that if it weren’t for the video games being adapted from the books, most wouldn’t know about this IP. So naturally, plenty of gamers were excited to see how the show would hold up after the incredible works produced by CD Projekt Red.
We’ve had three seasons of The Witcher so far; for those three seasons, we saw actor Henry Cavill portray the iconic Geralt of Rivia. But that suddenly came to an end after season three wrapped. Henry was done and left the production, leaving fans wondering who would step up and take his place. Of course, we have since been told that actor Liam Hemsworth would do the honor, and if you were skeptical about his commitment to the role, it turns out Liam was already well aware of the franchise.
Thanks to IGN, we’re learning that Liam Hemsworth brought up his love for The Witcher when he was featured on Live With Kelly and Mark. It turns out Liam is a gamer, and before being approached to take on the role, the actor was already familiar with the character due to having played The Witcher 3 when it first launched. Liam states that it’s still one of his favorite video game titles of all time.
That said, before even accepting the offer, Liam first went through and watched the Netflix series and the books. We now know after that he was ready to commit to the role. But now we’re left waiting to see the next season’s release. Furthermore, we’re also waiting to see the next thrilling installment of The Witcher video game franchise make its way out into the marketplace. However, that will likely be a good while as it was only just recently announced to be heading into full production.
