First announced in June, Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster was finally released on September 18. Fans enjoying their trip down memory lane may want to make their voices heard, because according to Capcom, Dead Rising 2 may get the same treatment in the future.
In a recent survey, the company asked fans what remasters they’d like to see, with options ranging from Dino Crisis to Okami. Given the stellar reviews Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster has been given in its first week on sale, it’s no surprise to see the series appearing on the list as well.
The Dead Rising series has sold more than 16 million copies globally, making it Capcom’s sixth most successful IP overall.
In a chat with Inverse, members of the Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster team, including director Ryosuke Murai, original game director Yoshinori Kawano, art director Satoshi Takamatsu, and producer Kei Morimoto, mentioned the possibility of a Dead Rising 2 remaster. According to Morimoto, a remaster or remake is “definitely possible,” as long as sales of the first game remain strong.
The original Dead Rising was produced by Keiji Inafune and developed by Capcom Japan and was released in 2006, receiving an HD remaster in 2016. It follows Frank West, a photojournalist who finds himself trapped in a zombie-infested mall in the fictional town of Willamette, Colorado.
The most recent game in the Dead Rising series, Dead Rising 4, was released on PC and Xbox One in 2016, with a PlayStation 4 version following in 2017. While a fifth game was being developed at Capcom Vancouver, the studio was closed in September 2018.
