There is a ton of hype over the upcoming Grand Theft Auto VI release. The title has been anticipated for years, and it wasn’t until last December that we got our official first look at the game. But if you go back a little further, you might recall the Rockstar Games breach that happened, which resulted in a barrage of clips from the developer build of the game. Today, we’re learning a little more about what happened that day.
We may never get the full story here. However, Tech4Gamers reported that MMI on X shared what they heard. MMI or otherwise known as Mors Mutual Insurance has a strong following on YouTube and X. They typically cover Rockstar Games with Grand Theft Auto VI obviously being their main focus right now. Recently, MMI heard some new details about what happened with the leak from their contact at Rockstar Games.
According to their source, the hack stems back to a phishing scam against an employee from Rockstar India. At the time, the employee was working from home when they were scammed. From there, the scammer was able to dive into their account information and leak the various content we saw pop up online.
That gave so many fans worldwide a look at what to expect from the game. For instance, we didn’t know officially where the game would take place at the time, but these leaks revealed Vice City as the backdrop. Again, the only official look at Grand Theft Auto VI came last December. Rockstar Games released the announcement trailer, which you can view below.
In other news, there was some speculation online that Rockstar Games was having to delay their game beyond 2025. But that was since debunked when Take Two made note that Grand Theft Auto VI was still slated for a release next year during the fall season.
