It’s been a few years since Bethesda announced that they were doing a new game starring the beloved movie icon Indiana Jones. The character has had multiple games in the past, including several during the original movie trilogy via LucasArts, but this new one would arguably put them all to shame. When Indiana Jones and the Great Circle was officially announced, many were surprised by how much it “looked like the movie,” especially with the model for Indiana Jones himself. Today, some new screenshots help drive home that point while also enforcing the level of detail you can expect from both the protagonist, and the world he’s in:
Taking it picture by picture, we find ourselves in a gorge at one point, as you can see the greenery and the sky above in the distance. Clearly, Indiana Jones has some depths to plump to find what he’s looking for. Then, we are in Giza. Longtime fans know that Egypt has a special place in Indiana’s heart, for better and for worse. Anyway, he’s going through a bazaar at one point and has a map to help him get around.
The third picture is a nice closeup of our esteemed archaeology professor, and shows the level of detail focused not only on his character model, but the lighting that’s around him to make the game feel like an entry in the movie franchise.
Finally, Indiana is “doing his thing” by working his way through an underground temple of some kind. It’s likely one of the main areas he’s searching to find clues on the Great Circle itself.
No matter how you look at it, the game appears impressive in terms of visuals. Many people commented on the Twitter post about the game’s graphics and how beautiful they were. However, a few wondered about the gameplay.
You see, while many agree that, based on the trailers we’ve seen, the game will “look and sound” like an entry from the franchise, the gameplay is what throws people off every time. Indiana Jones and the Great Circle takes place in the first person, and the team even ensured fans that gunplay wouldn’t be what Indiana Jones relies on, so you’ll have to use your wits and your whip to get out of several dangerous combat and stealth scenarios.
This might be the biggest hurdle for the game to clear, but we won’t know for sure until the game arrives on December 6th on Xbox Series X/S.
