YouTuber Uncovers A Rare Xbox Controller Prototype

September 6, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

Check out this Xbox controller!

If you’re like me, you’ll find this story fascinating. I love looking back at the history of how video games and hardware came to be. A lot of trial and error goes into these projects. Likewise, you might be surprised by how some of these projects initially started out before being morphed into their commercial release counterpart. Today, we’re finding out that a YouTuber managed to get their hands on an Xbox controller prototype.

YouTuber Bringus Studios is an entertaining channel for those who enjoy tech. Jon will typically pull apart some rather unusual tech and see if they can get it to run some games. Honestly, they put out great content, and the amount of work that goes into breaking into these devices and seeing how well they game is a blast to watch from start to finish. But thanks to Dexerto, we’re finding out that this YouTuber actually got their hands on a rare piece of tech that wasn’t meant to get out into the public.

It seems that Bringus Studios was able to get a hold of a rare Xbox controller prototype that had the host scratching their head. When opening up the package, the Xbox controller looks pretty used, but it was initially believed to be an older Xbox 360 controller. After testing it and opening the device up, Bringus discovered that this was actually an Xbox One prototype controller.

So, we’re getting a look at a controller that is just one generation old. We’re always eager to see more prototypes pop up and showcase just a little of what companies had initially planned before being revised. With as much attention as this YouTube video is getting, it might prompt some former employees to voice up on what was initially planned, why certain revisions were made, and even highlight other prototypes that ultimately were scrapped.

In the meantime, you can view the video upload of the Xbox controller prototype from Bringus Studios below. Likewise, we’ll continue monitoring for some rather unusual prototypes if they appear online.
