There is no shortage of speedrunners looking for ways to make some games even faster to complete. You’ll find that developers missed glitches galore, allowing players to avoid sections of a game altogether. And while some glitches only help a player save a few seconds overall, those precious few seconds can make or break a run. Unfortunately, a version of Metal Gear Solid 2 on the PC is finding a useful glitch was eliminated.
We’re discovering this new update killing off the glitch comes from GamesRadar. Apparently, it’s noted that Windows 11 had an update that actually breaks a glitch found in Metal Gear Solid 2: Substance. Now, this particular version of the game has been removed online, and instead, players are able to purchase Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection, which includes Metal Gear Solid 2 in the mix. However, those who speedrun the Metal Gear Solid: Substance release will find that the Emma glitch is no longer available.
For whatever reason, the update no longer allows players to push Emma out of bounds. There is a section of the game where pushing Emma through a wall will transport her further into the level, saving you some time in your run. You can see this glitch used in action from the embedded X post by ApacheSmash.
Of course, it’s hard to know if this Windows 11 update is the cause of the glitch no longer working or if it will be debunked by other speedrunners who attempt the glitch. Regardless, if this is proven to be true, it might be quite a bummer for some players.
While not related to speedrunning, there was some recent news regarding the franchise. For instance, last week, we reported on how Konami has had a team of young developers filling the role of creative director since Hideo Kojima left the company. Likewise, there is a chance we might soon see Metal Gear Solid 4 on modern platforms.
