Crytek claims that a group of unnamed developers are working on next-generation game projects with the CryEngine 3.
The engine, which was most recently used to power Crysis 2, is said to be futureproof and powerful enough that it can fully utilize the power of the next-gen consoles. The games are being developed for the successor to the XBox 360 (sometimes referred to as the Xbox Next and the Xbox 720) and the PlayStation 4.
According to Develop, which got the scoop, the games in development for the X360 successor have been in development for well over a year.
CryEngine business exec Carl Jones says that the company does not follow Epic Games' strategy of building a new engine for every new generation of console, and has instead planned for its CryEngine 3 to support next-gen development since its inception.
"We'll be showing more on this during 2012. We don't need to rebuild our engine to deal with higher spec gaming devices, which will come on line in the next few years," he said.
He added that over 50 commercial CryEngine games are currently in development.
