In a chat with GamesRadar, Swen Vincke, the CEO of Larian Studios and director of Baldur’s Gate 3, said that sending developers to countless award ceremonies was beginning to impact the studio negatively. The RPG continues to win accolade after accolade over a year after its release, and while the dev team is incredibly thankful, they have work to do.
“It affects development – there’s a lot of them. This has been a real problem,” said Vincke. Larian has begun to send rotating teams to award ceremonies.
“It’s great that you have a moment of celebration […] we still have award shows that we’re going to. Because they’re important, and we really appreciate it,” the CEO continued, though he stressed that the title’s success level sometimes feels too much.
The team at Larian Studios is currently hard at work on a mystery title, which they have stressed is not Baldur’s Gate 4. Because of this new focus, the team is hoping to find closure on their previous chapter, but more awards keep pouring in. Last week, Baldur’s Gate 3 won Best Narrative and Best Game at the 2024 Develop Star Awards, while Larian won Best Studio.
“It would be cool if everybody could agree to do it all at the same time. It is surprisingly draining on the soul,” Vincke continued. “We’ve all been more emotional because we can’t get closure. And you want to have closure at the end of a project.”
To date, Baldur’s Gate 3 has sold over 10 million copies.
