Today’s Nintendo Direct announced a lot of new Mario titles, including a brand new Mario Party and a Mario and Luigi RPG, which are some big things coming to the Nintendo Switch before the new console releases hopefully next year. However, we got an announcment early on before the Nintendo Direct from Shigeru Miyamoto.
The first Super Mario Bros movie released in 2023, and it has officially been announced that we are getting a second movie. Chris Pratt definitely sold people on Mario even besides the controversy. In “Hello, this is Miyamoto. We will be broadcasting a Nintendo Direct tonight, but before that I would like to make an announcement the release date for the new Super Mario animated movie in Japan has been set for April 24, 2026. We are working with the Illumination team to make it a fun movie, so please continue to look forward to it.”
We don’t know who will be returning, but after the success of the past movie, that a lot of the main characters would be returning – otherwise it would not be a Mario movie. This includes Chris Pratt as Mario, Luigi played by Charlie Day, as well as Jack Black as Bowser, who last movie sang us a brand new song called “Peaches! Peaches! Peaches!” We could also see Anya Taylor-Joy returning as Princess Peach, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
Furthermore, The Super Mario Bros. Movie was the highest paying movie based on a video game as well as the third highest-grossing movie of all time. The second Mario movie is set to release around April 24, 2026.
