A handful of new screenshots for NieR: Automata has just been released. The images showcase some of the game’s industrial locations, which players will venture to.
NieR: Automata is set in the same universe as Nier, which itself is a spin-off of the Drakengard series of games. The upcoming title is in development at PlatinumGames lead by the series creator Taro Yoko. It is set in the midst of a proxy war between automatons created by invaders who are trying to kill off what’s left of humanity, who’ve also created machines of their own to fight in their stead. Players take on the role of a combat android named 2B and her companion 9S, and a prototype unit A2.
The game was originally due for release in 2016, but an update on the official website has removed any references to that date. It’s unknown whether it’ll still come out this year, or if development has been pushed back.
In the meantime, check out the new screenshots and images of the main characters.
