We now have a new rumor that gamers are about to get The Last of Part 2 Remastered again.
The Last of Part 2 has an unusual record for possibly the fastest turnaround on a remaster from the original release. It originally released on June 2020 for the PlayStation 4, and it got its remaster on PlayStation 5 in January 2024. That’s close to only four years between the two releases, and you can somewhat tell from how few gamers see or feel the impact of those changes. While it’s true that there is a real upgrade in technology between those two consoles, there was definitely a more visible change between PlayStation 3 to PlayStation 4, or for that matter, PlayStation 2 to PlayStation 3.
As reported by Tech4Gamers, a new rumor is out that The Last of Part 2 Remastered is also coming to PC, and that its release is happening this year. This comes from Twitter user Silknigth, who had previously leaked that Ghost of Tsushima was getting a port to PC.
There is likely no one really that surprised that the PC port for The Last of Part 2 Remastered is coming. Sony revealed a few years ago that they would be pivoting to bringing their first party games to PC, and it has been a successful strategy for them thus far. We learned from leaks that these PC ports go a long way towards making these PlayStation titles profitable. Some titles, like Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart, would not have been considered successful without the PC sales figures added in.
As PlayStation’s incoming head honcho Hiroki Totoki also revealed matter-of-factly, Sony has unwittingly placed themselves in a situation where they have no major AAA titles ready to release to the PlayStation 5 for this coming financial year. Some rumors claim that the drought for such titles will take even longer than that.
This may be overexposure for PlayStation owners, who are being sold the same game three times in the span of four years. But this is the first time The Last of Part 2 Remastered is coming to PC in any form, so those PC gamers who have been helping make PlayStation titles successful are going to be the ones buying them.
Are PC sales of PlayStation titles that high? Perhaps not, as they don’t match anywhere close to sales of those games on the console itself. If Sony wants to report successful quarters for the next year, they are going to have to push as many of those PC ports as possible within this time frame.
