Microsoft May Also Consider Gears Franchise For PlayStation

February 5, 2024 by Dennis Patrick

PS5 players may soon also get Gears of War.

It’s hard to avoid the onslaught of news online right now from Microsoft. There was a series of headlines early into this year that had fans wondering what new strategy the folks over at Xbox might be working on. Today, we’ve seen reports of a couple of exclusives from Xbox now being potentially moved to other platforms in the future. With that said, there is one more exclusive to throw out on the list of potential games coming to the rival platform, PlayStation 5. This other game franchise that could land on the Sony platform is Gears.

The Gears franchise has several installments available to pick up and enjoy. However, fans are waiting on what the next game could entail. Even the original veteran who worked on the franchise since its introduction to the world, Cliff Bleszinski, has expressed interest in coming back to consult on where the franchise should go. Now, it seems that Microsoft has potential plans for this game franchise to go multiplatform. That’s according to Jeff Grubb, which we’re finding out through a report from VGC. Jeff Grubb is a reliable industry insider who has expressed that one of the games they have heard Microsoft considering moving onto the PlayStation 5 platform is Gears of War.

This is just a rumor; even Jeff notes that this doesn’t mean it will happen. All that he’s heard so far is that this is another IP being up for consideration. Furthermore, Jeff also stated that he’d heard plans to explain the new initiative from Microsoft at the end of February, but with all the speculation going on, there might be new information coming out sooner than expected. Again, 2024 has had quite a few surprising reports based around Microsoft that have fans wondering what the future holds for Xbox.

That’s outside of the reports suggesting Starfield is coming to PlayStation 5 or Indiana Jones and the Great Circle will be released as a multiplatform title. For instance, we’ve seen reports that Call of Duty might avoid being added to Game Pass and that physical games for Xbox could be a thing of the past. Additionally, we just saw Microsoft have mass layoffs, leaving some to wonder about the new plans Microsoft might have and their commitment to the Xbox console market. Again, we’ll just have to wait and see if Microsoft makes any official statement about the future of the Xbox division and its line of exclusives.
