Cyberpunk 2077 fans have been enjoying the game for a good while now. After its very rough launch out of the gate, the developers over at CD Projekt Red had spent a lot of time clearing the game up. It took the team a couple of years to really get Cyberpunk 2077 up to expectations. However, after finally getting through the rough launch and reworking the game that would appeal to a wide fan base, we started to see some notable updates. One of which came as a complete surprise. 2.1 was an update that landed on the game well after the thought that anything significant was coming to the title.
If you don’t recall, Cyberpunk 2077 2.1 update brought in a few new additions. For instance, players now had a metro system that could be used, the ability to listen in on the radio outside of driving in a vehicle, gangs could chase down V, races could be repeatable, and even little interactions such as sitting down at a food stand. All these features coming to the game likely brought in some more troublesome bugs. It’s always a constant battle between developers and ridding bugs that pop up in the game with each new update. Thanks to Gamerant, we’re discovering that SteamDB has a small change to Cyberpunk 2077.
That’s leaving some to speculate an update could be coming into the game soon. Now, don’t get too excited here, as this update is likely just another means to clear out bugs. After the Phantom Liberty expansion release, most developers were expected to be hopping off from Cyberpunk 2077. The exodus from the project was due to CD Projekt Red changing their game engine. Instead of using their own engine, CD Projekt Red wanted to switch over to the Unreal Engine 5.
This engine change ultimately caused all significant support for the game to end. So, it was a surprise that there was still one major update left with 2.1. At any rate, what’s left on the project is likely a small team to help clear out any remaining bugs from the 2.1 update as more staff transition over to CD Projekt Red’s other development teams. We already know that a sequel to Cyberpunk 2077 is in the works at the studio established in Boston. Likewise, there is a new installment coming for The Witcher franchise. In the meantime, we’ll have to wait and see if Cyberpunk 2077 does receive an update and likely look through what fixes and bugs are cleared out.
