Yoshida Promises Highly Requested Features Are Coming After The Launch Of Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail

January 4, 2024 by Ryan Parreno

They may not all come at the same time, but longtime fans know Yoshida’s word stands for something.

Final Fantasy XIV producer Naoki Yoshida has revealed that many highly requested features coming after the launch of Final Fantasy XI: Dawntrail.

As reported by GameRant, Yoshida mentioned these features in particular, that were noted by fans on his latest livestream:

  • New housing exteriors
  • Visible headgear for Hrothgar and Viera
  • More inventory space and Glamour Plates
  • Field content like Eureka and Bozja
  • New character customization options

Now, people who don’t play Final Fantasy XIV won’t realize this, but the big one that’s on this list is actually the visible headgear. To put it simply, these two races in particular, who have lion heads and bunny ears, respectively, have not had visible headgear since they were introduced in the game.

So, if you were playing the game, you may have gotten the benefits the headgear provided where applicable, but you didn’t get to see said headgear on your character. What makes this worse is that most headgear in Final Fantasy XIV is cosmetic and doesn’t imbue bonuses or provide benefits anyway.

So this was one of those things which did not necessarily discourage fans from playing Final Fantasy XIV, even using the aforementioned races. They may have even already gotten used to it. But it was still something that the fans held Square Enix accountable to, for them to fix.

You don’t have to play Final Fantasy XIV to understand that inventory space is a huge bonus for any game, especially a live service game that encourages collecting and stocking items. That will be welcome to newer players but a huge boon to the gamers who have stuck by Final Fantasy XIV throughout the console generations.

These will also be things that Xbox owners will get to enjoy when they get Final Fantasy XIV on Xbox Series X|S. The Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail expansion in particular, will introduce a new story to keep their veteran players engaged. In the meantime, those incoming new players on Xbox Series X|S will benefit from the major graphical overhaul the game will get alongside this expansion.

As for these other promised updates, Square Enix may not be able to deliver on all these promises immediately after Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail, or for that matter, their debut on Xbox. But it means something that Yoshida has committed to these changes and fixes, as those long patient fans also know.

Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail will be released on summer 2024. Final Fantasy XIV will also be debuting on Xbox when it arrives to the Xbox Series X|S on Q2 2024.
