Today was supposed to be the day the Grand Theft Auto VI trailer dropped. But as you know, things had to get released a bit earlier than anticipated due to a leak that “ruined the party.” That wasn’t the first time that something from this game was leaked, but hopefully, it’s the last time. The point is, when it did drop, it nearly broke the internet because people wanted to dissect just about everything about it and bemoan how the title wasn’t coming out until 2025. That being said, Rockstar Games can look at one event of yesterday positively: the game’s trailer got a huge amount of views.
As of this posting, the official Grand Theft Auto VI has over 74 million views on YouTube, with it only being alive for 17 hours! Just as important, it’s the #1 trending thing on YouTube, which shouldn’t be much of a surprise given the anticipation for the title. While we can’t say how many individual people watched the trailer and how many times they may have watched it to get that many trailer views in less than a day? That’s impressive.
Many people likely wanted to watch the trailer repeatedly because of the Easter Eggs that were inevitably going to be dropped in it. Sure enough, people were able to catch various glimpses into both the series’ past and teases of what could be happening in the future.
For example, past game references include “Patriot Beer,” the return of the Cheetah car, Sessanta Nove, and so much more. There are also signs and clues as to the life within this new version of Vice City, including musical acts, company names, and more.
Arguably, the biggest “Easter Egg” isn’t an Easter Egg at all; it’s the fact that the trailer full-on adopted the phrase, “stranger than an average day in Florida.” If you’ve never heard that phrase, it’s a saying meaning that on any day in Florida, no matter the day, something weird is going to happen, and you see that in the trailer via people running around naked or twerking on top of a car while driving, or getting arrested because of their facial tattoos, and so on. Believe it or not, that last one is actually an Easter Egg of a real-life event.
So yeah, things will get crazy in this game, and that’s before you tackle the story of Lucia and her partner-in-crime as they try to make a better life for themselves.
