If you’re after a new 3D Mario game, it’s been a lengthy wait. After the successful release of Super Mario Odyssey, fans were hopeful of a sequel within the lifecycle of the Nintendo Switch. That’s not likely going to happen. In fact, the next 3D Mario game won’t be attached to Super Mario Odyssey. This is what’s being said right now, according to a reliable industry insider who has previously released details regarding Nintendo’s projects in the past.
Thanks to Comicbook.com, we’re finding out that Zippo has recently released some new details about the next 3D Mario game. Zippo has been a popular industry insider for Nintendo news, and apparently, the insider has learned a few things about the next major Mario game. According to the industry insider, it seems that the next 3D Mario game will be an open-world title. While Super Mario Odyssey featured some rather large environments to explore, the next Mario game will be a completely open world in the same concept as we’ve seen from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild along with its sequel, The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.
Furthermore, Zippo is claiming that this game will look jaw-dropping. Unfortunately, it’s not a title that will be launching on the current Nintendo Switch platform. Instead, the insider noted that this game is slated to launch alongside the release of the Nintendo Switch console successor. That means this will be the first 3D Mario game to launch on a console on day one since the release of the Nintendo 64, where we saw Super Mario 64. So that might further bring in quite some anticipation over the next console release.
Unfortunately, this is just from an industry insider right now. We don’t have any official details from Nintendo quite yet. In fact, we’re still waiting on just when we’ll get our first look at the Nintendo Switch successor. While it’s expected to be released in 2024, there could be some hesitation to showcase the new console. We’re moving into the holiday season, and this might be the last big push to move Nintendo Switch units and its software. For now, we’ll just have to wait for Nintendo to start making their official grand revealing of the next console and what games will be ready at launch.
