It was a surprise to fans worldwide when we discovered that the iconic character, Mario, would receive a new voice actor. Nintendo’s flagship character had been voiced for decades by Charles Martinet. This actor has been offering his talents to Nintendo to give Mario those iconic phrases fans have become familiar with. But after his lengthy run, it looks like Charles was ready to hang up his cap and pass the torch. Unfortunately, we’re not sure just who that torch has been passed on to.
When Charles Martinet announced that he was stepping down from voicing Mario in future Nintendo video games and projects, many believed that the upcoming Super Mario Bros. Wonder would be Charles’s last time portraying the character. However, that’s not the case, as it looks like Nintendo and Charles parted ways with him voicing Mario before the game went into production. Instead, there is a new voice actor taking on the role and has already voiced Mario in the latest upcoming 2D side-scrolling platformer. But don’t expect Nintendo to reveal just who this person is quite yet.
Instead, Mario’s new voice will be unveiled during the credits of Super Mario Bros. Wonder. Nintendo previously stated that, but during a recent Nintendo Live event, IGN hoped to get more insight. Speaking with Doug Bowser, the Nintendo of America President, Doug wasn’t ready to unveil who that person is quite yet. Instead, this new person will be uncovered when players reach the credits of Super Mario Bros. Wonder.
So mark your calendars; we’ll get some insight into the new voice actor when the new game launches on October 20, 2023. Meanwhile, just because Charles Martinet is no longer voicing Mario in future games doesn’t mean he’s done with Nintendo. We had already learned that Charles has taken on a newly created job of being the ambassador for the Mario character. Just what all that entails remains to be seen, but it looks like Charles will continue sporting Mario in some fashion for the foreseeable future.
Again, the latest Super Mario Bros. Wonder game is coming out next month. This is a throwback to a 2D side-scrolling platformer. We even had a Nintendo Direct that highlighted the game last month. You can view the video below if you missed out on the Nintendo Direct. That should hopefully catch you up on everything you would want to know regarding the latest Mario title.
