Update:
It’s official, a Quake 2 remastered edition has been announced and released today.
Original Story…
We don’t see too many shadow drops in the video game industry, but when it happens, there’s plenty of hype built up immediately to try these games out. For instance, Hi-Fi Rush was a game that dropped back in January of this year. Best of all, you could enjoy it through the Xbox Game Pass subscription service. That title did well, and now we might have another shadow drop release for the Xbox Game Pass service. A new game could be coming out next week, along with its grand reveal.
If you’re a fan of Quake, then get ready because we might get a Quake 2 Remaster release. This is the rumor that’s circulating online right now. Thanks to Gamerant, we’re finding out the rumor has started to spread online, but it stems back to a rather reliable industry insider. The industry insider billbil-kun is what’s revealing this leak online, and it’s suggested that we might see Quake 2 get unveiled during this year’s QuakeCon event, along with it being released at the same time. This should spark quite a bit of fandom for the franchise to either renew its Xbox Game Pass subscription service or purchase the game outright.
After all, ZeniMax Media is now under the Xbox umbrella, which would make Quake 2 Remaster a first-party Microsoft title. That means this would land on the Xbox Game Pass subscription service, but again this is just a rumor right now. It’s a solid rumor since it does come from a rather credible industry insider. But we don’t have any official statement suggesting that this game is being announced and released during QuakeCon 2023. So until the surprise reveal happens, we’ll just have to continue labeling this as nothing more than a rumor.
Meanwhile, this might not be the only big game reveal during QuakeCon. We’ll just have to see what exactly is unveiled during this year’s event and when we might be able to get our hands on them. Again, this event is kicking off next week, so you don’t have too long to wait before we start seeing these announcements make their way out. Fans can expect QuakeCon 2023 to take place in Texas this August 10, 2023, and the event will continue on through August 13, 2023.
