The Binding of Isaac, a twisted roguelike for the PC and Mac, being released in a new Unholy Edition for retail stores on March 16.
The game, which was previously only available online through Steam, and the Humble Indie Bundle, will finally be landing on store shelves. It’ll come with DRM-free version of the game, an additional Steam key to give away, a poster, a soundtrack, and a 40 page “devzine”.
The Binding of Isaac is based on the biblical story in which God demands Abraham to make a sacrifice of his son, Isaac. This twisted roguelike puts players in the role of Isaac who must brave the basement in which his siblings—fetuses and other offspring—have been thrown away by his mother who intends to sacrifice him to God.
Isaac can sign an unholy pact with Satan, discover relics, and uncover all sorts of weird, twisted shit his mother keeps within her basement before he finally faces off against her. The game plays like a cross between a roguelike and one of the earlier Legend of Zelda games with a gothic aesthetic.
I’d argue that the game is an allegory for man’s rebellion against god, and independence from god—but that’s just my take on it.
If you can’t wait for the Unholy Edition, just grab it on Steam.
