There’s been no shortage of rumors regarding the Nintendo Switch successor. Within June, there might have been some hope that the Nintendo Direct presented would offer a tease of the next console successor. However, that event came and went without mentioning the next console iteration. Instead, we were given more details on upcoming video game releases under Nintendo. But now it looks like rumors are starting to flood online that the Nintendo Switch successor will get an official unveiling this month.
We recently reported that another publication boldly claimed that we could see something unveiled during Gamescom. This is another big video game expo that is being held later this month. With E3 canceled and Nintendo not showcasing the Nintendo Switch successor during their June Nintendo Direct, this could be a big month for the company. Gamescom is a big event, and while it might not hit the strides that E3 used to hit, it receives plenty of attention worldwide.
A new comment from Jeff Grubb on his podcast made a quick statement regarding the latest batch of rumors. According to Jeff, they have heard in the past that Nintendo had plans to make some kind of announcement during the summer of this year. That doesn’t mean it will happen, but Jeff wouldn’t be too surprised if Nintendo does take to Gamescom or their own Nintendo Direct event to reveal the new hardware.
Unfortunately, we just have to wait and see if this ends up being the case or not. Nintendo is known for keeping a tight seal on things. We typically don’t see a Nintendo Direct announcement until at least a day before the event actually happens. So while Gamescom could be a good venue to showcase the hardware, we’ll be left in the dark until the event happens or if Nintendo holds a presentation before Gamescom kicks off. Regardless, seeing what Nintendo does with this next console release will be incredibly interesting.
We’ve heard in the past that Nintendo was keeping the same handheld setup. However, it should pack a bit more power and, hopefully, a means to enjoy the physical Nintendo Switch cartridges consumers have picked up over the years. But again, we’ll just have to wait and see what exactly this next hardware offers and if it provides any kind of backward compatibility support.
