Based on the title of this article, no doubt some of you are thinking, “But we already know GTA 6 is coming! So it’s already been announced!” Well, yes and no. Yes, we know that the game is coming, if for no other reason than the massive leak last year that showed massive amounts of gameplay from the title in a prototype state. But no, Rockstar Games has not officially “confirmed” the title as they haven’t done a standard “announcement trailer” nor even shown off the logo for the title. So that begs the question of when we might get said announcement.
That is easily one of the biggest questions in the gaming industry right now. There are plenty of rumors flying about what the game will be like, its location, main characters, etc. But when it comes to the announcement/reveal, pretty much everyone says we might have to wait a while. One such insider who states this is Chris Marxx, who has been rather reliable regarding information about upcoming titles. He revealed that Rockstar Games is apparently going to “hold back” the first trailer for the game so that there could be a smaller time gap between it and the game’s release:
That tactic is much different than many developers or publishers choose to do with their titles. Many prefer to let people know a sequel is coming and slowly build up the hype over the “long journey” to release. However, that sometimes can cause problems in the developer doesn’t share much during the gap. A certain sequel with Spider-Man comes to mind.
Another way to look at this is that another rumor stated Rockstar won’t release this game until they’re sure they’ve “accomplished perfection.” Or at least close to perfection. That’s not unrealistic to desire, as GTA 6 has to follow up on one of the most successful video games ever via the 5th mainline title. That game was so successful that it dominated sales charts years after its release in 2013.
So you can feel that Rockstar Games wants to not just have the “perfect timing” for the announcement but want to know that their game is “where they want it to be” for the announcement. Given how many games in 2023 have not met expectations due to technical issues and glitches, gamers will likely be ok with this.
But it means we’ll be seeing lots more rumors about the game until Rockstar drops the first trailer.
