Square Enix Is Making A Change To What Games They Develop

May 15, 2023 by Dennis Patrick

Bigger games are their focus now.

Fans of Square Enix games might find that there will be a slight adjustment in the future. In a new report from GamesRadar, we’re finding out that the company has a new focus when it comes to releasing video games. This announcement comes from a financial briefing suggesting Square Enix is not keen on releasing smaller video game projects but titles that have a more considerable appeal.

Currently, Square Enix has a significant video game release coming out into the marketplace with Final Fantasy XVI. The video game is nearly here, and according to Square Enix, you can probably expect more of these significant releases regularly. It’s noted that during the financial briefing, the company revealed that they are using the funds earned from their MMOs and mobile games to support their following big projects. So as long as their mobile and MMOs continue to see subscriptions and monthly payments coming in, we could see more games released with a larger appeal.

Again, in particular, the Square Enix team is interested in releasing games with global appeal, so it doesn’t necessarily mean we will see massive budget games. But instead, we’ll see games that might find more players interested in trying them. Of course, we’ll have to actually wait a little while before we start seeing what other games are being developed that have yet to be revealed. But, again, we know they are working on a big release now with Final Fantasy XVI.

Although outside of Final Fantasy XVI, there is also the upcoming launch of the next major part of the Final Fantasy VII Remake. Then it wasn’t too long ago that Square Enix revealed that they would be bringing out Kingdom Hearts IV. So we still have some games in the lineup coming out from Square Enix that meets the new focus. But these games were already unveiled to the masses before Square Enix announced their focus change.

Final Fantasy XVI is currently set to release next month on June 22, 2023. When the game launches, it will be available for the PlayStation 5. However, this is a timed exclusive deal for the PlayStation 5, with PC players likely getting a port release at a later date. In the meantime, you can check out the game trailer for Final Fantasy XVI in the video we have embedded above or check a series of small clips here that highlights party members, story mode, and more.
