If you’re like me and you think the concept of virtual currency like Microsoft Points is a silly one, you’ll enjoy this rumor – it looks like Microsoft is ditching their points system all together.
According to Inside Mobile Apps, Microsoft are planning to phase out Microsoft points by the end of the year, switching all Live and Windows Phone digital purchases to real world, big boy money.
Why? Well, Inside Mobile Apps thinks it might have to do with keeping up with the Android market and the Apple App Store, while some are speculating that it could quite possibly have to do with the recent (and very public) series of hackings.
Whatever the reason, if this is true, it’ll certainly be a huge change to the online purchasing system, both for Xbox Live and the mobile content stores. It might make things a little more convenient for everyone as well.
