Walmart Leaked An Exclusive Pre-Order Bonus For Tears Of The Kingdom

April 11, 2023 by Ryan Parreno

Unfortunately, this was a ‘blink it and you’ll miss it’ kind of deal

You know who isn’t having a good day today? Whoever was in charge of preorder bonuses for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom over at Walmart.

As revealed by Wario64, Walmart was offering a gold-colored wall scroll if you pre-ordered The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom on their website. This is a limited edition wall scroll, and it is limited to 5,000 qualities. The listing also provided an end date for pre-orders to April 20, 2023.

A few hours later, Wario64 confirmed in following up that the listing has returned, but the bonus had been switched around to a black wall scroll, with green accents. This item does not seem to have a limited number.

Both scrolls have the same image. The wall scroll showcases the broken Master Sword, with decorative motifs that indicate grey smoke surrounding it.

As expected, it does seem that the gold wall scroll has already run out, but if Walmart had done the marketing on this properly, they could have gotten a lot more people to visit their website and shop for other items, such as the OLED The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Nintendo Switch. It’s likely that the plans were for Nintendo to share this offer on their social media, but someone made a mistake and word got out early. If you happened to be following Wario64 you might have caught it, but Wario64 finds deals from elsewhere, so it’s likely those pre-orders had already ran out immediately.

Now, there may be a possibility a number of those pre-orders are fraudulent, but if that were the case it would still point to Walmart not having optimized this promotion the way they intended. If this promotion was revealed properly, they could have gotten more legitimate customers to get those pre-orders.

There’s no doubt that this item will turn out to be one of those highly sought after collectible items for The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom years after the fact.

In the meantime, the rest of us can still get the special edition The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom console, Switch Pro Controller and carrying case, and the new Link amiibo. It’s possible that there will be more The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom amiibo in the future, but we also still don’t know yet what possible bonuses the existing amiibo will bring to the game. Hopefully Nintendo will reissue those amiibo as well.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom will be released on May 12, 2023, exclusively on Nintendo Switch.
