After two major leaks today, Resident Evil 6 has been officially announced by Capcom, which is creating the game in-house.
Blending action and survival horror mechanics, Resident Evil 6 is set ten years after the Raccoon City incident with the President of the United States set to reveal the truth behind the events that took place. A bioterrorist attack happens at the venue, turning the President into a hideous monstrosity. Leon S. Kennedy, the President's personal friend and confidante, is forced to make the most difficult decision of his life as he faces the infected President.
Meanwhile in China, Chris Redfield must deal with a bioterrorist attack happening simultaneously. With no country safe from the attacks and the ensuing outbreaks, the entire world's population is at risk of infection.
Leon and Chris must come together to face these threats, and will be joined by new characters, each with their own unique perspective and involvement in the setting—which, for the first time in the Resident Evil series—takes place across the globe.
"Resident Evil 6 represents a giant stride forward in the evolution of the series,” commented Katsuhiko Ichii, Head of R&D and Global Marketing. “The development team, led by Hiroyuki Kobayashi, is working tirelessly to deliver the most impressive Resident Evil title ever both in terms of scope and production values. We are all genuinely excited by the title and cannot wait to share it with the world."
He added: "From the outset the team’s intention was to create an experience that delivers a gripping storyline, tense single-player and co-op action all set against a constant theme of horror. We are calling this fusion dramatic horror and are confident it will resonate with both existing fans of the series as well as newcomers."
Resident Evil 6 is set for release on the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 on November 20, with a PC version of the game to follow sometime after.
