Whether you played the video games or not, The Last Of Us has become one of the most beloved video game series of all time and one of, if not the best video game adaptation of all time. Throughout its nine-episode season, one that ended on Sunday, it proved that you could faithfully adapt a game and translate it to the TV screen while expanding the story and characters meaningfully. While the show wasn’t flawless at times, it did make almost everything work. So why are we talking about it when the season is over?
That’s because it’s not over. A special “bonus episode” of the show has dropped on HBO Max, and as you’ll see in the teaser below, the focus of the episode is the behind-the-scenes action and moments that helped deliver the show that you saw. Make no mistake, while plenty of episodes had a “grounded” and “believable” look to them, plenty of work had to be done to make each episode shine. Even if it meant freezing the cast members as a result:
We’ve already got some behind-the-scenes looks at the end of every episode on HBO proper, and those also showed on HBO Max. We’ve also gotten showcases of how things went like with the giraffe scene. But through this 30-minute bonus episode, you’ll learn even more about what it took to make things work.
Sometimes the crew behind the movie aren’t always given the credit they’re due for all the work that they’ve done, so if nothing else, you should watch the special to honor them and see some of the little things they did to help make this first incredible season of the show.
But, as we know, The Last Of Us isn’t done on HBO. They were approved for a second season after the first episode, and we’ve already gotten teases about what the controversial second game will be like in its adapted form. First, we know the v. That’ll be a departure from what happened with season one, but the sequel was a larger game, and there’s more to cover.
Another thing to note is that, like in season one, changes will be made to make the adaptation fit the TV screen while also making improvements the game could not do. Oh, and there will be more Infected in Season 2. So there’s plenty to look forward to as we wait for filming to start.
