The official website for One Piece Film Red announced on Monday the film has officially surpassed Howl’s Moving Castle as the 4th highest-earning anime film of all time. The movie also became the 8th highest-earning anime film in general of all-time at the Japanese box office. One Piece Film Red has officially grossed over $246.5 million at the worldwide box office placing it comfortably behind the critically acclaimed movie Your Name, which earned over $380 million. One Piece Film Red was released in theaters across the United States and Canada on November 4, 2022, and went on to earn over $12.7 million at the domestic box office, making it the most successful anime film since Jujutsu Kaisen 0 was released earlier that year which earned over $34 million at the domestic box office.
One Piece Film Red was recently nominated for the Animation of the Year award at the 2022 Japan Academy Film Prize Association awards just a week ago and is awaiting the results. But this isn’t the first award nomination for the film. One Piece Film Red was nominated for the Best Animation Film award at the Mainichi Film Awards and is also currently up for both “Best Film” and “Best Anime Song” at the 2022 Crunchyroll Awards. The film was already given the “Special Award” at this year’s Japan Academia Film Prize awards ahead of other selections. One Piece Film Red is the most successful by far of the franchise’s film lineup. For comparison, One Piece Stampede (2019) made just over $81 million at the worldwide box office.
