Marvel’s Avengers sounded like a great game on paper. Crystal Dynamics was developing the title for Square Enix. Their plan was to craft up a new live service title that would see players taking the role of different Marvel’s famed heroes. With new quests, villains, and a storyline that would continue on for likely years to come, the results didn’t quite hit. Instead, the games had been more of a flop, and the development studio just couldn’t turn things around for players. So while it was a long time coming, Square Enix finally decided to pull the plug for Marvel’s Avengers officially.
Despite that, there are still fans who are heartbroken over the loss of this game. Players won’t get the new heroes anticipated for the title, or the features Crystal Dynamics was working on. But that doesn’t mean there’s not their own fight to take on. Fans are assembling themselves in hopes that a petition will make Square Enix see there’s a demand for this franchise. Thanks to a report from The Gamer, we’re finding this petition online that calls for a sequel installment. Within the post, the fan base is crediting the mistakes learned from this installment which could, in theory, bring out a solid sequel.
For instance, there is a request to see this game sequel make use of Unreal Engine 5, which should make development easier. Additionally, there are some suggestions on how to properly market the new title, such as being upfront with a two-year roadmap of what’s to come. Of course, this petition has yet to hit its goal of 2,500 signatures, but they are nearing the 2,000 milestone mark. Regardless, it seems like plenty of players are signing the petition in hopes that the game franchise would continue with a new installment.
At the moment, there are no official plans announced to bring out a sequel. With the failed attempt to bring the live games service title out initially, Square Enix might be hesitant to try it again. Regardless, if there are clearly enough people interested in the IP, it could potentially sway some incentives in giving the IP another lookover. For now, the development is ending, and when the last update rolls out on March 31, 2023, the developers are giving players Challenge Card and Shipment cosmetic content for free.
