Hogwarts Legacy Graphics Modes For PS5 And Xbox Series X|S Revealed

Hogwarts Legacy doesn’t seem to be capable of running at a consistent 60 FPS, but console players have some leeway in improving performance.

On the Portkey Games support page, they confirm multiple graphical modes will be available on both consoles. Portkey is curt on the matter, but they did confirm two modes; Fidelity Mode will run at 30 FPS, and Performance Mode will target 60 FPS.

It seems to be implied that both consoles aren’t entirely capable of running Hogwarts Legacy consistently at 60 FPS. Performance Mode’s 60 FPS goal may be what many gamers now prefer, but it is likely to come with some graphical issues or compromises. The consoles likely allow you to handpick what items you can lower or turn off, such as tessellation or shadows.

Fidelity Mode will probably be a more stable experience overall, though again, Portkey’s short answer means we don’t know if this mode could also have some graphical or performance issues or not.

Portkey also confirms that variable refresh rate is supported on both Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5. It is up to the consumer to supply their own VRR-supported displays, including TVs and monitors. Each console also have different setups to enable this option. This does mean console players have some leeway in improving performance for Hogwarts Legacy on their chosen platforms.

We can compare this to Portkey Games’ recommended and minimum spec requirements for the game on PCs. To run the game at 720p and 30 FPS, you would need a CPU at the level of the i5-6600 or the Ryzen 5 1400, as well as a GPU at the level of the GTX 960 4 GM or RX470 4GB. For the recommended settings to perform at 1080p 60 FPS, you need to raise the CPU to an i7 8700 or Ryzen 5 3600, as well as GeForce 1080 Ti, or RX 5700 XT, or Arc A770. Either way, you also need to have 16 GB RAM and 85 GB storage, preferably SSD.

It is also worth considering that Portkey Games confirmed that Hogwarts Legacy will be Steam Deck verified by the time the game launches. This is a promising development for the Nintendo Switch port, but it also means that Portkey made the game to be flexible and playable on lower specs, in spite of it being a modern game.

Hogwarts Legacy will be releasing on February 10, 2023, on PC via Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X|S. It will also be published later on Xbox One, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.
