Splatoon 3 Reveals Winner Of Latest Splatfest!

January 9, 2023 by Todd Black

One SWEET Victory!!!

There’s a reason why the Splatfest events in Nintendo’s beloved franchise are so popular. It’s not just because of the topics fans love to take sides on or the stages they compete on. Instead, it’s about anticipation. Because for three days, gamers on all sides of the equation go at it in multiple battles and attempt to get the victory for their side. But by the very laws of the game, you can’t know who’s winning until the very end. Or, in the case of Splatoon 3, you won’t get a tease until “halftime.” So when the “big announcement” comes, you’re shaking with anticipation as you need to know if your side did enough.

The latest Splatfest ended yesterday afternoon. The fight was the “taste preference” topic of “Spicy vs. Sweet. Vs. Sour.” The results are in, and the winner is:

How sweet it is! Congrats to Team Sweet on their #Splatfest victory!

It’s Team Sweet! A sweet-tasting victory if there ever was one. That should show you that when it comes down to it, fans really love their sweets. We appreciate all the hard work that Spicy and Sour-loving people put in, but it wasn’t enough in the end. So sorry.

It needs to be remembered that this particular Splatfest had some upgrades to what was going on with it. First, the Tricolor Battles would be available to everyone to play immediately at halftime. That meant you didn’t have to wait to be put into it. You could jump in immediately. That meant there was another metric by which you could earn points for your side.

So how did the final tallies break down? Team Sweet got the wins in Votes and the “Open” style of Turf Wars. Team Spicy pulled off an upset in the Tricolor category by taking down the other sides, and Team Sour won in the Pro circuit.

All in all, it was a fun Splatfest that fans enjoyed. However, if the current “cycle” is to be upheld, the next Splatfest won’t happen until March. That’s because Splatoon 3 is shaking things up, potentially, by alternating between a Splatfest and the new “Big Run” event for Salmon Run. We saw the first Big Run event in December. While it was a little rough, that can be improved over time.

The alternation isn’t bad, as it’ll make fans anticipate the Splatfest even more. Plus, it will extend the length of the content we’ll get for the game as it goes on.
