When Infinity Ward exploded (because that's what it did) a couple of years ago, nobody really knew what was going on. There was a lot of blind support for the studio despite Activision claiming that studio heads Jason West and Vince Zampella had been 'courting' EA and stealing Activision's property, allegedly with an eye to selling. The fight went to court and the vast majority of the studio left Activision to join with their old bosses at EA, forming a new studio called Respawn.
Nothing has been known about their new projects until now and with the release of the above teaser image I think we may actually know less than we did a couple of days ago. The blurred image shows what appears to be two soldiers, but I don't dare try to guess at more detail.
Understandably, the more aware members of the gaming community have spent the evening guessing exactly what all this means. My question has to be whether anybody will really care. The average person on the street doesn't know Infinity Ward isn't the Infinity Ward that created Call of Duty and they don't know who Respawn is. It's just another shooter (presumably) from a company they've never heard of before and I'd love to see how that will affect sales.
With that said, expect EA to provide a mammoth advertising budget.
We'll update you as more news comes in.
