The series of Sony exclusives are strong and near the top of that list resides Uncharted. This series has been such an epic action-adventure title for fans. However, with four mainline video game installments, players itching to get more from this IP have been met with silence. It’s been rumored in the past that Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End would be more or less the end of this franchise. Or, at the very least, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End would be the final main game release featuring Nathan Drake from Naughty Dog.
That’s not much of a surprise, as, after four mainline installments, chances were that the studio was interested in moving onto a new IP. Likewise, Uncharted 4: A Thief’s End seemingly had a conclusion to the story of Nathan Drake. The only other game we received that wasn’t a collection, or remastered release was in 2017, where Naughty Dog offered a smaller story narrative with Chloe Frazer in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy. But now, a rumor is circulating that Sony is interested in bringing this IP back into the marketplace. If proven to be true, Uncharted will reappear but not under the development control of Naughty Dog.
This rumor is coming from The Leak, where they have learned Sony approved an Uncharted reboot. Again it’s stated that Naughty Dog won’t be developing this time around, but we also don’t have any word as to who is actually behind the game development. Regardless, outside of a rumored leak suggesting the game franchise is being rebooted, no details have since made their way out on what story this game will end up telling. We might not even see Nathan Drake featured in this title.
Being a reboot, we could see a completely different protagonist taking the central role of this franchise. But that doesn’t mean Nathan Drake is not up for consideration, as we could see a younger Nathan Drake taking on new adventures or perhaps a continuation of where we last left him in the series. Regardless, since this rumor suggests that Sony has just greenlit the studio to proceed on an Uncharted reboot, we won’t hear anything about the game for a good while. Then again, this could be a false rumor, as we have nothing official to confirm whether or not the IP will get picked back up. It could be that the future of this IP will continue to remain in the blockbuster film industry after the release of the Uncharted film starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg.
