It’s been a full sixteen years since the last Shenmue game was released, and the upcoming third installment of the series, announced last year, is expected at the end of 2017. Few details have yet been released about the game, which was successfully crowdfunded to the tune of over six million dollars last summer on Kickstarter.
However at the Monaco Anime Game International Conferences this past weekend, five new screenshots were unveiled, as well as some video footage, during a talk given by Shenmue 3 producer and director Yu Suzuki. While they are somewhat small, they illustrate the progress made over the past several months, showcasing some deeply beautiful environments in the game’s opening area of Bailu Village. Flip through them in our gallery below.
The talk was also recorded, capturing footage of Shenmue 3, which you can see in the video posted above. The footage isn’t particularly unique, as it mostly captures the locations seen in the screenshots. However it does give a better look at what those areas will actually look like in-game and all three are very lovely, with sleepy lighting, lush foliage, and vibrant skies. Between that the dulcet tones of the sweeping orchestral music in the background, I need a nap.
