2023 is looking to be quite the filled year of incredible video game releases. One of those releases slated to launch in early 2023 is Atomic Heart. This comes from developers Mundfish, who has been teasing this release for a good while now. Now, if you’re not familiar with Mundfish, then that wouldn’t come to much of a surprise. This will be the developer’s first release, as the studio only started back in 2017 with a small team of four developers. Their initial goal was to deliver a video game that could rank alongside their personal favorites like Doom, Fallout, and Bioshock.
You can certainly see the inspiration from these games with their upcoming Atomic Heart release. Since 2017, the development team has continued to expand as they pressed forward in delivering the game into the marketplace. We’re still a little ways off before the game’s upcoming launch, but that hasn’t stopped the development team from providing information about what exactly players can expect.
What’s The Story Premise In Atomic Heart?
In Atomic Heart, we’re tossed into an alternate reality. In this timeline, the Soviet Union has continued to thrive. As a result, a new technical revolutionary boom has occurred, allowing mankind to come up with robots to holograms at record speeds. However, while technology has thrived, it seems that mankind may soon be on the decline. Players here will be stepping into the role of a KGB special agent named P-3.
Within the game narrative, you’re given the assignment to investigate an area. It seems that a special facility plant has gone silent. Our protagonist must venture into the area and resolve things to learn what has happened. Although, upon arriving at the secluded plant, it’s been discovered that the robots have taken over control. Now it’s a battle to stop these mechanical beasts from causing further harm. With these robotic machines initially designed to perform various routine and mundane tasks, you’ll find that they are incredibly deadly.
For example, players will face against machines that were initially designed to cut down trees or assist in surgeries. Meanwhile, we know that the game is said to be linear, so there is a clear pathway the player will be taking in order to progress through the story campaign. However, there are also said to be two different endings, so you might have some replay value here depending on just how players can unlock the endings.
Currently, Atomic Heart is set to launch into the marketplace on February 21, 2023. When the game does release into the marketplace, you’ll find it available for the PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S platforms.
