Ubisoft has revealed Tom Clancy’s The Division New York Collapse, and as they describe it, it’s more than a simple tie-in novel.
The Division New York Collapse introduces a new character, a survivor of the pandemic named April Kelleher. April has assembled a part field guide, part diary, and part evidence document. April picked up what seems to have been a pre-pandemic copy of such a survival guide and littered it with notes and annotations pertaining to the event. April believes she knows who started the pandemic and why they did it.
Is April leading the reader down a wild goose chase? Or is she actually onto something on what’s going on behind the scenes? You can judge for yourself when the book releases the same day as the game, March 8. Whether she knows the truth or not, it promises to be a compelling read, in the same vein as Max Brooks’ Zombie Survival Guide and World War Z. While it’s not a unique approach to worldbuilding, it’s a very effective way to make a compelling world for The Division.
Tom Clancy’s The Division will be released on March 8, 2016, on PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. You can watch the special trailer for the book and read some sample pages below. You can also check out more related media in the Ubisoft funded short film Agent Origins, and with this site that shows how quickly the pandemic can spread around the world.
