The video game industry is full of franchises you wouldn’t expect to do well when you first hear or see them. But when gamers give them a try, they find themselves enjoying the title a lot more than they arguably should, and the game takes off. A great example of this is the Plants vs. Zombies games. On the surface, that sounds like a really odd pairing. After all, plants are immobile and mostly docile, so what can they do against zombies? However, the team behind the game took a simple concept and turned it into a fan-favorite series that went from 2D to 3D and had a lot of success. To the extent that one leaker claims to have footage from Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 3!
At present, Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare 3 hasn’t been confirmed to be happening, and yet, Twitter has become filled with videos from the person below about the potential for a next entry in the series. Of course, they make it clear that they don’t know if it is from this potential game, but they also don’t deny the possibility that it could be!
Commenters on both Twitter and Reddit are curious about what this might mean. Some feel it may have been early footage of the 2019 title, Battle for Neighborville, or possibly a build for something else that never got made. Developers like EA will reuse all kinds of assets when developing new titles to have an easy build to develop before they swap in the new stuff.
Others aren’t sure this is anything at all, and given how the franchise has been dormant for a while thanks to EA and other factors, they doubt it would suddenly make an appearance after so long in the dark. Then again, the gaming industry is one that banks on nostalgia, and EA has never been shy about making a quick buck if they feel they can try it.
Heck, Electronic Arts filed a patent recently that implies they’re trying to make a device that will sift through information to see if people are colluding with one another through online play to toss matches. The catch is that it may require breaking privacy laws.
Either way, the footage is curious and will incite a lot of discussion from gamers and insiders as to whether the battle between plants and zombies will continue on a console or PC near you soon.
